M.Y. STORY

Hello, my name is Marek. I am a Czech born Australian who have lived nearly half of his life in Japan. I have lived over 20 years in Osaka, Japan. As I have lived in Japan for almost half of my life, I have amazing experience and knowledge about Japanese culture, customs and way of life. One of these amazing moments was when I learned about Japanese rice. Before coming to Japan, I didn’t think much about rice or Japanese cuisine because I came there to study and that was my priority.

However, very slowly and gradually I started to appreciate the amazing cuisine that Japan has to offer. Japanese rice and its wide types completely captivated me. First of all, rice has an almost mythical significance in Japan because it is treated with the utmost respect even when eaten. It is the whole concept of esteem and respect for everything that comes from nature and that has been grown by the hard work of farmers that permeates the daily routine of Japanese cuisine. Eating in Japan is a ritual in which you deeply sense and appreciate all that you consume, and pay your respects as you consume the gifts of nature. And Japanese rice is truly the pinnacle of such apprehension.

This is one of the main reasons why I decided to bring quality Japanese rice to Europe and offer it here to all Europeans in the traditional Japanese way of omotenashi - the inherent idea of respectful consideration and appreciation. This is just the beginning... Today, more than 300 varieties of rice are grown and harvested in Japan every year. And I am here to bring and make available to you some of the most popular varieties of rice. I import brown rice to Europe and then freshly polish it myself. M.Y.JAPAN can guarantee that the rice is above all the freshest and best quality available in Europe. We cooperate closely with Japanese farmers to ensure that our rice is of the highest possible quality. I’m sure you will be delighted with the opportunity to taste the real Japan here in Europe.

M.Y. LOGO

Japanese rice to the world!

Many people who cannot read Japanese and who are not familiar with Japanese kanji may not be able to read our logo. I feel that we should take this opportunity and introduce our logo, its creation and its meaning as well.

Our logo comes from our company’s name, M.Y.JAPAN. The letters M. and Y. are initials of our first names Marek and Yuka. This personifies not only our individual and emotional commitment in the company and its activities, but also embodies the meaning of MY JAPAN, which we see and interpret also as the experience and lives we have had in Japan and the imaginary space we are able to create in Europe through our product.

The first Japanese kanji means MA which stands for the first two letters of MAREK. Since coming to Japan over 20 years ago, I have had my name written in Japan. It means really a running horse. This describes me and my personality really well as my life has been an endless move through different continents ever since leaving Czech Republic over 30 years ago, living in England and Spain, then moving to Australia and ending up in Japan for 20 years. I also like to be very active and passionate about sports.

The second Japanese kanji means YU which stands for the first two letters of YUKA. The letter YU means being a caring and loving person who has the will and personal strength to help others. It also means beautiful and exceptional. In Japan, parents give their children names with deep meaning hoping and praying for their children to have amazing fulfilling lives living up to the hopes and dreams that their names mean.

The red circle means sun as Japan is called the country of the rising sun. Under this sun and those signs we can only hope that you too will also fall for the wonderful taste of Japanese rice.

M.Y. ORIGIN OF RICE

We work very closely with farmers mainly from Niigata and Ibaraki prefectures. Niigata produces one of the best Koshihikari in Japan. And apart from Koshihikari, it also grow some new types of rice, mainly Nijinokirameki, which is getting extremely popular due to its easy growing patterns. Ibaraki is well known for high quality rice as well as the origin of the premium Milky Queen rice.

We make sure that our rice is of high quality and therefore we import the rice in brown form. Brown rice is thanks to its outer layer much more resistant to temperature and external damage and protects the taste and nutrients in the rice. We polish our rice only after it has been delivered to Europe and offer the best quality in terms of taste, flavour, texture and freshness to people in Europe.
